Fishing Nets Circularity

We promote the recycling of waste fishing nets with Bureo Inc. (U.S.A.), which owns and operates the NetPlus® brand of recycled nylon materials made from 100% waste fishing nets.

What is Bureo?

Founded in 2013, the company is based in California, U.S.A., and is involved in the circulation business of waste fishing nets. Working directly with local fisheries, primarily in South America, the company has developed and operates the “NetPlus” program, producing quality post-consumer recycled nylon that can replace virgin plastic.
Waste fishing nets are sorted, cleaned, crushed, and processed in Chile into fully traceable recycled raw materials.
The company also operates regional revitalization programs and has obtained the “B Corp Certification,” which is given to environmentally and socially conscious companies with a high level of public interest based on rigorous evaluations.
They are also a member of “1% for the Planet,” a global network of companies and individuals who donate 1% of their profits to nature conservation.

What is NetPlus?

Every year, more than 600,000 tons of waste fishing nets and gear are not properly disposed of and instead released into the ocean through illegal dumping and other means, becoming a major source of marine plastic pollution.
NetPlus is a brand that offers the most effective solution to this problem: 100% traceable post-consumer recycled nylon that uses 100% waste fishing nets as raw material.
Expanding this activity will not only contribute to the conservation of the ocean environment, but will also have a significant social impact, such as generating additional income for local fisheries and operating regional revitalization programs initiated by each community.

Initiatives in Japan

To introduce Bureo’s South American waste fishing net collection program to Japan, we provide multifaceted support to Ellange Inc., which operates a waste fishing net collection and recycling business based in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
By supporting Ellange Inc. operations in Japan, we will build a stable supply system for “NetPlus®” and promote not only the conservation of Japan’s ocean environment, but also the development of regional community projects.
